The Occidental
The Occidental is Wellingtons Monteiths
bar, and is the only bar in the region to range all
of the family of five and seasonal beer on tap. We are
only a stones throw (or anything else you want to throw
at them) from parliament and a 5 minute walk from the
Stadium and Railway Station, nestled amongst the CBD
and shopping district on Lambton Quay.
The Occidental is a bar that is crammed full of history,
whether it is on the walls or in the stories of the
thousands of patrons that have enjoyed a beer here over
the last 128 years or so. In March 2003 we opened after
an extensive refurbishment and in the process have reverted
back to the bars original name, “The Occidental”.
We have created a bar that we believe has taken the
best elements out of the traditional “kiwi pub”
and brought them into this century. The Occidental is
a bar without pretensions, we welcome all comers as
long as you leave all bad attitudes at the door, we
will greet you with a smile and hopefully you will leave
with one.
Our extensive kiwi music play list adds to the thoroughly
New Zealand feel, which is backed up by local acts that
play every Thursday and Friday nights from 9pm.
The Occidental is open from 7am Monday to Friday; 9am
Saturday; and 10am Sunday.
We believe we offer the best value meals in Wellington
which start with our famous $2 breakfast, running until
11am 7 days a week. We have an extensive menu including
classics like our “Venison bangers and mash”
and “lamb shanks” or our specialty hot and
cold platters which never cease to amaze the hungry
hoards of Lambton Quay. Beware you may have to book
for lunch between Monday and Friday.
