Where we keep the spoils of a few good
beers brewed

t must be said, weve won a few
awards in our time. These trophies might come down to
a few judges with exceptional taste; more likely the
fact that we pride ourselves on the quality and complex
flavours of every beer we make. Great beer takes a good
deal of time and some real crafting, and we take the
time to get to know every beer style. Thats really
the only secret behind the swag of gold medals weve
picked up over the years and plaudits the world over.
Here are some of our finest moments.
Internationally there are major cups that youd
give your eye teeth to win.
Monde Selection (Brussels), World Beer Cup (USA), Brewing
Industry International Awards (England), Australian
Beer Awards and the New Zealand Beer Awards (because
Kiwis know a good beer when they taste one).

ALL OUR AWARDS
Monde Selection
A truly international competition that has been established
for over 40 years.
Since its inception in 1961, the Monde Selection, a
competition by the International Institute for Quality
Selections, has awarded more than 28,000 products all
over the world. The Monde Selection is a symbol of quality
in domestic and international markets, with the award
represented by a medal or a diploma.
A High International Quality Trophy is awarded to products
that achieve a high level of quality ~ a grand gold
medal with palm leaves or a gold medal ~ for three consecutive
years (Monteiths achieving this honour in 1999).
The World Beer Cup
The Olympics of Beer Competitions discovers
winners in over 70 style categories.
The objective of the World Beer Cup (first held in
June of 1996) was to recognise the traditions and innovation
shared by the worldwide industry as well as some of
the origins and customs that are unique to different
beer styles and flavour profiles.
Brewing Industry International Awards
Held at Burton upon Trent, this biannual competition
dates from 1888. To give you an indication of the scale
of this show, at a recent competition a panel of practising
brewers reviewed 850 beers from more than 200 breweries
in 36 countries.
In a category with more than one class, all 36 judges
in a blind tasting of
the highest-ranked beer from each class determined The
International
Champion. This is a competition that is generally regarded
as the "Oscars"
of brewing, with a rich pedigree and awards that are
coveted the world over.
The Australian International Beer Awards
New Zealands best take on their Aussie mates
(and the rest of the world) without resorting to an
underarm.
The very first Australian International Beer Awards
were held in 1984. This is an annual competition open
to any brewery in the world. All the entries are divided
into large and small brewery categories, with beer being
submitted bottled or on draught. At the most recent
competition, the judges were busy tasting 288 beers
from 60 breweries in 19 countries, with the beers judged
in four categories: Lager, Ale, Stout and Speciality.
This last category can include speciality brews such
as wheat beers, low-alcohol beers and alike.
These Awards started small, but now have a fervent
following with the public and industry support increasing
every year.
