Saison back by popular demand

MARCH 18 2002 ~ Monteiths Brewing Company has
heeded the requests of the connoisseur beer-drinking
public by bringing back its hugely popular international
award-winning Saison Biere for Autumn 2002.
This limited-release seasonal beer won Champion Ale
and Gold for the Highest Scoring Beer in Class in the
2001 Australian International Beer Awards in Sydney.
Over the past six months Monteiths has received
a barrage of inquiries, emotional expressions
of interest and hearty pleads from Beer Writers and
the general public to bring back the acclaimed brands,
popular limited-edition Saison Biere.
Monteiths is renowned for its seasonal beer offerings
and brand manager, Lisa Dymand says, the success of
Saison last year and the keenness expressed by so many
this year has convinced our brewers to release it again
this Autumn.
The unique characteristics of Monteiths
Saison Biere will surprise many people who are not used
to the style particularly because of its unusual flavours,
Ms Dymand says.
Saison Biere was originally brewed to celebrate the
arrival of the autumn harvest ~ a traditional occasion
in French speaking southern Belgium where Saison-style
beers originated.
Monteiths Saison Biere has an equally distinctive
aroma and a hugely intriguing mouth feel with pleasing
raisin-like notes, complemented by the slightly tart
citrus notes of Monteiths exclusively grown Saaz
hop,Ms Dymand says.
Monteiths Saison Biere is an excellent
example of the autumn beers of old and the perfect accompaniment
to duck, hearty stews and spicy sausages which are usually
enjoyed during the cooler months.
The Saison style is known for its unique golden amber
hue and strong hop flavour which is complemented by
a sweet spiciness and fruity and malty aromas.
Monteiths Saison Biere has a slightly higher
alcohol content of 5.5 per cent to suit the changing
season. The beers packaging is also reminiscent
of autumn and features gold and brown colourings.
This limited release beer can be purchased nation wide
in six packs. It is envisaged Saison Biere will be available
until June 2002.
