Monteiths Celtic Beer strikes gold
at international brewing oscars

APRIL 18 2002 ~ Monteiths Celtic, an Irish-style
red beer, competed against top international beers in
the Awards. Monteiths Brewing Company brewer,
Malcolm Stratton, says he is absolutely thrilled with
the win.
The gold medal is recognition by fellow professional
brewers that Monteiths is continuing to make some
of the worlds best beer and that Celtic is an
outstanding commercial example of its style, Malcolm
says.
Dubbed the Oscars of the Brewing Industry,
the Brewing Industry International Awards (BIIA) are
recognised as the most prestigious in the world.
The Awards are judged entirely by practicing professional
brewers from around the world, who assess the beers
solely on the commercial-worth of their quality.
This recent medal adds to the Monteiths brands
increasing collection. Last year, Monteiths autumn
limited-seasonal release, Monteiths Saison Biere,
won first prize, Champion Ale, at the Australasian International
Beer Awards in Sydney.
Earlier in 2001, Monteiths Brewing Company won
a silver medal for its Saison Biere in the Hort Research
Specialty Ales/Lagers Section of the annual New Zealand
Hop Marketing Board International Beer Awards. Monteiths
Black Beer, Monteiths Original Ale, Monteiths
Pilsner and Monteiths Golden Lager also won awards
in various categories.
The 2002 BIIAs Best International Ale medal is
the first gold for Monteiths Celtic, which is
one of five styles in the Monteiths family of
beers.
Monteiths Celtic Beer has a burnt-red colour,
is characteristed by a dry roasted malt flavour and
is the perfect accompaniment for rich foods such as
venison.
