he secret to enjoying Monteith’s
classic beers is to savour the rich flavours and aromas.
Together with a group of friends compare the range of
Monteith’s beer styles, you’ll be amazed at
the different perceptions each person has about the
flavours.
- Pour a small amount of beer into a glass, ensuring
a good head.
- Swirl the glass around to release the aromas then
place your nose at the top to enjoy them. This is
where most of the sensations are felt.
- Taste the beer carefully as it rolls through your
mouth. Sweetness is sensed on the front of the tongue,
bitterness at the back and sourness along the sides.
- As you swallow, note the “mouthfeel” or
aftertaste ~ does it leave a crisp, dry feeling or
full, rich maltiness? A good beer will clean and refresh
the palate and urge you to take another sip.
- Allow time for your mouth to clear between tastings.
- Compare your findings with your friends, then compare
different beers.
